The Skellig Islands, located off the coast of County Kerry in Ireland, are a must-visit destination for adventurers and Star Wars fans alike. These rugged rocks jutting out of the Atlantic Ocean can only be reached by boat, with regulated trips primarily departing from Portmagee.

Landing on the islands is a thrilling experience, with steep cliffs, ancient monastic sites, and an abundance of seabirds to admire. While the boat tour itself is accessible for most travelers, once you reach the island you'll want to hike to the top. This involves quite a few steep stairs and heights. If you're afraid of heights, this might not be a great activity for you.

I did this activity during late May and we had great weather, but be mindful that around 40% of tours are cancelled due to rough seas and poor weather. Additionally, these tours typically sell out far in advance.

Since the tours generally depart early in the morning, I would suggest spending the prior evening in Portmagee.
