Tudor Artisan Hub - Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, Ireland

Overview

The Tudor Artisan Hub was established in May 2014 by Linda Fahy as a vibrant and independent collective bringing together over 100 talented artisans from Carrick-on-Suir, the Suir and Lingaun Valley regions and beyond. It is housed in a former Technical Institute built around 1910 at 42 Main Street, just steps from the Tudor Manor House in the Ormond Castle Quarters, along the Medieval Butler Trail in Ireland's Ancient East. The Hub sits nestled between two award-winning theatres - the old-world Brewery Lane Theatre and Arts Centre, and the modern 360-seat Strand Theatre - forming a cultural quarter that is, for a small market town, remarkably rich in the arts.

What You'll See

This space spans five gallery spaces over two floors, offering a diverse collection of handcrafted treasures in a rustic, charming space. The walls are covered from floor to ceiling with paintings, photographs, and graphic art, while the shelves hold handmade leather bags, woven rugs, pottery, jewellery, greeting cards, and CDs featuring local musicians. The Hub regularly hosts immersive participatory cultural experiences and eco-conscious workshops, as well as pop-up demonstrations and performing arts events throughout the year.

Visitor Essentials

The Hub is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm. Admission is free to browse. Works cover visual arts, graphic arts, photography, crafts, music, books, poetry, film, prints, and greeting cards - all by local and regional artists. Everything on sale is handcrafted and locally made, with no mass-produced items. Confirm current workshop schedules and any special events directly with the Hub at 051 640921, as the programme changes throughout the year.

Tips

Ormond Castle, Ireland's finest Elizabethan manor house, is a two-minute walk and well worth pairing with a visit to the Hub - together they make a natural cultural half-day in the town. The Hub also serves as the satellite information centre for the annual Clancy Brothers Music and Arts Festival, so if you're in town during that event, it's a good first stop. The Hub sits steps from the River Suir Blueway, so combining a browse of the Hub with a walk or cycle along the trail makes for an easy and rewarding morning. The Carraig Hotel on the main street is a short walk away for food before or after.
