What You'll See
The hotel retains its wonderful old-world charm, with traditionally designed bedrooms, some with spectacular panoramic views. The Scandinavian Lodges boast private balconies with views of the Galtee Mountain range, en-suite bedrooms, kitchen and dining facilities, and a lounge opening onto a sun deck. In winter, armchairs are drawn up beside the open log fire in the Hunting Lodge Bar; in summer, guests move out to the spectacular veranda. The Hunting Lodge Bar and the Treetop Restaurant both overlook the Glencush Mountain peaks and serve Irish and European cuisine until 9pm each evening.
Visitor Essentials
Check-in is from 3pm and check-out by 11am. Room rates vary by season and room type - confirm current pricing directly via the official site. The Hunting Lodge Bistro Bar operates on a walk-in basis only, with no reservations taken, so arrive early in peak season. The hotel has no elevator - all rooms are accessed by stairs. Free Wi-Fi is available in public areas of the hotel, but is not included in the self-catering lodges. Free parking is available on site. The hotel's restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays - confirm current food service days before booking.
Tips
Guests strongly recommend requesting a room with a balcony or panoramic view facing the Glen of Aherlow - the difference in experience is significant. The Christ the King statue and the entrance to the Glen of Aherlow Nature Park are just a short drive up the hill from the hotel, placing five looped walking trails directly on your doorstep. Cahir Castle and the Rock of Cashel are both within 30 km, making this an excellent base for a two-night South Tipperary circuit. The approach road through the Glen is narrow and winding - take it slowly and enjoy the scenery rather than rushing.
