Overview

O'Donoghue Public House is a lovingly restored traditional Irish pub on College Street in the center of Killarney, operated alongside the adjoining Killarney Towers Hotel. The pub has been transformed to honor the old pub ways - snugs, warm wood, and vintage fixtures reminiscent of Killarney's past - and has built a strong reputation since its reopening for a combination of genuine atmosphere, live music seven nights a week, hearty traditional cooking, and a well-poured pint of Guinness.

The walls are lined with historic photographs of old Killarney, giving the interior a vibe that sets it apart from the many tourist-oriented pubs in the town. Awards received in recent years have recognized both the quality of the hospitality and the faithful restoration of the traditional pub aesthetic. For visitors seeking a proper Irish pub experience in Killarney without the polished edges of larger venues, O'Donoghue's has become a reliable recommendation.

What You'll See

The pub's layout features a main bar with stools, several cozy snugs for more intimate seating, and a relaxed dining area. The menu leans into traditional Irish comfort food: seafood chowder, prawns, mushroom soup, chargrilled steaks, corn-fed chicken, shepherd's pie, salmon, fish and chips, and signature dishes like the Steak Sammie.

Pro tip - the chicken sandwich here is one of the best I've ever had, don't sleep on it.

Desserts include bread pudding, and a range of craft cocktails such as Ms. Slattery's Tea-ki appear on the drinks menu. The bar takes particular pride in its Guinness. Live music typically plays starting at 9:30pm, with a mix of traditional Irish tunes and crowd-pleasing favorites performed by local musicians. The atmosphere typically warms up considerably as the evening progresses.

Tips

Arrive early for dinner if you want a seat close to the music stage, since the pub fills up fast from dinner through around 9:30pm when the bands start. The central College Street location puts the pub within easy walking distance of most town-center accommodation including Killarney Towers, The Killarney Park Hotel, and The Great Southern Killarney, which makes it an easy stop for an evening out without needing to drive.

Consider wrapping up your night our with a specialty cocktail at Pig's Lane located next door!
