Where The Kids Roam

This perfectly preserved middle-class samurai residence shows you exactly how the warrior class lived during the Edo period. The Shoin-zukuri architecture and that immaculate garden with its stone bridges and lanterns are stunning, but timing is everything here. When it's quiet, you can really absorb the details - like sipping matcha in the second-floor tea room overlooking the garden feels like time travel.

But this small space gets crowded quickly, and with too many people, it loses that contemplative atmosphere that makes these samurai residences special. Worth visiting, but maybe circle back later if you find it packed.
