The Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza is one of Seville's most recognizable landmarks, even if you have zero interest in actual bullfighting (like me—I've only been inside once in six years of living here). Built in the 18th century, this stunning yellow and white ring holds 13,000 spectators and represents a significant piece of Andalusian cultural heritage, controversial as it may be.

I won't judge if you want to see an actual corrida (bullfight)—this is the land of bullfighting after all, and the Maestranza is considered one of Spain's most prestigious rings. The season typically runs from Easter Sunday through September, with fights usually held on Sundays. But for most visitors, the excellent guided tour and museum (€8) provide more than enough cultural insight without the ethical dilemmas.

Even if you skip the interior tour, you can't miss the distinctive exterior while wandering through the El Arenal neighborhood. The building itself is architecturally significant and photogenic from every angle. Nearby you'll find some of the city's most traditional tapas bars where bullfighting memorabilia adorns the walls—perfect for experiencing the culture without necessarily endorsing the practice. Whether you're fascinated or repelled by bullfighting, the Maestranza remains an undeniable piece of Seville's identity.
