Ettal Abbey, located in Bavaria, Germany, is a Benedictine monastery with a rich history dating back to 1330. Founded by Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian, the abbey has survived various challenges, including damage during the Reformation and secularization in 1803. It was later re-founded by the Benedictines in 1900. The abbey is known for its Baroque architecture, educational tradition, and as a place of pilgrimage. In recent years, Ettal Abbey has faced allegations of child abuse, leading to investigations and changes in leadership. Today, it continues to operate a brewery, distillery, bookstore, and more, while maintaining its role as a significant religious and cultural site in the region.
