The hike to Chephren Lake is an easy and rewarding outing located along the Icefields Parkway in Alberta's Banff National Park. A great choice for beginners and families, the trail will bring you up close to dramatic mountains silhouetted by two glaciers, the small hanging glacier between Aries Peak and Stairway Peak and its larger valley glacier at the base of the cliffs. The trail meanders through an open spruce forest offering glimpses of red squirrels harvesting the seeds of local cones. Chephren Lake itself is framed by impressive Mt Chephre, named for an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh, and Howse Peak, a great spot for enjoying nature's grandeur. Enjoy a break here before the return to the trailhead and base camp.
