Rothenburg is considered the best-preserved medieval city in Germany.
Narrow cobblestone streets, small half-timbered houses with balconies adorned with flowers of all colors, churches, numerous fountains, and old buildings dominate the city's romantic and medieval image.
Built in the upper part of the Tauber River valley, Rothenburg was founded in 1170 and has been the inspiration and setting for several important films: in the animated film Pinocchio, Walt Disney drew inspiration from the city to create Gepetto's village. In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Rothenburg also served as a setting for some scenes.
Rothenburg is simply a wonderful city.
Enjoy these incredible tours and then savor the delicious Rothenburger Schneebälle (Rothenburg Snowballs), a sweet dough in the shape of a ball with different types of toppings. You can find this delicacy in many shops scattered throughout the city.
Walking through the medieval streets of Rothenburg you will find several shops, hotels or pharmacies, whose facades display wrought iron signs where, in addition to the name of the shop, you can see the owner's profession or what you can buy there, or even the name of the family that lives in the house. They are beautiful, and some very interesting!
