This causeway is a relatively new intervention, only built in the year 2000. A beautiful drive across the water between South Uist and Eriskay. If you’re visiting in winter (October - March), you might be lucky enough (like we were )to see the native Eriskay Highland ponies roaming the islands only village.

The Eriskay Hill Pony is a rare and endangered breed native to the Isle of Eriskay, at the southern tip of Uist. In winter, they’re brought down to the village for shelter and grazing, which meant I was lucky enough to see them roaming freely during my visit.
