I can’t recommend Vestmannaeyjar enough. It’s such a special place — small but full of charm and adventure. The ferry ride over is already part of the experience: it’s super scenic, and if the weather’s good, you’ll get amazing views of the cliffs and islands along the way.

Once you arrive, the town itself is cozy and welcoming, with colorful houses and a calm, friendly vibe. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel at ease.

The hiking is seriously underrated here — you get epic views without needing to climb for hours. You can hike up the volcano that erupted in the 1970s, or explore the dramatic cliffs with the ocean below you. And if you love puffins (who doesn’t?), this is one of the best places to see them up close during the summer. There are thousands of them nesting in the cliffs!

And of course, you can’t leave without seeing Elephant Rock — it really does look like a giant stone elephant rising from the sea.

If you're up for a unique, nature-filled day or weekend trip with a bit of everything, Vestmannaeyjar is 100% worth it. I always leave wanting to go back.
