Nakalele Blowhole is a raw, rocky ocean feature on Maui’s north shore, and what you need to know is practical: park in the roadside pullouts, then expect a short but uneven 5–10 minute walk over sharp lava rock to the viewing area, so wear sturdy shoes with good grip. There are no facilities, cell service can be spotty, and conditions change quickly, so bring water, sun protection, and keep belongings secure. The blowhole looks best with some swell, but waves are unpredictable and can wash people off the rocks, so stay well back from the edge, never stand on wet rocks near the hole, keep kids and pets close, and don’t turn your back on the ocean. Go during daylight for safer footing and better photos, and use a zoom instead of getting closer for a dramatic shot.
And yes, this is where the famous heart shaped rock used to be, but unfortunately it was damaged in a storm several years ago.
