The Castello Svevo di Bari is a majestic fortress, once used as a prison and barracks, that now serves as a museum! Located near the port and cathedral of Bari, this impressive fortress was originally built in 1131 by King Roger II and extensively restored and remodeled in the 16th century by Isabella of Aragon and her daughter, Bona Sforza. Today, visitors to the Castello Svevo di Bari can explore the Norman-Swabian core with its trapezoidal ground plan, marvel at plaster copies of sculptures from Apulian cathedrals, view archaeological collections of pottery found on the castle’s midden, and check out a host of precious items housed within the castle. So come on down and take an exciting journey through Bari's vibrant past!
