An incredible castle filled with rich history, stunning architecture, and beautiful gardens. Built in the late 19th century, this iconic landmark offers a glimpse into New Zealand’s past. We spent the day exploring its elegant rooms, learning about its fascinating history, and enjoying their delicious high tea, a true highlight! The drive to the castle also offers stunning views, making it a must see for history lovers and anyone visiting the area.

Quick tips:
⏰ Arrive early to beat the crowds and catch morning light through the stained glass.
🥾 The castle interiors and tower have stairs, wear comfy shoes.
🌼 Give yourself at least 1.5 – 2 hours to explore the house, climb the tower, and wander the gardens.
🍽 Don’t skip high tea or the café in the ballroom, they’ve got amazing harbour views.
📸 Bring a wide lens for the gardens, there are hidden archways, statues, and secret garden corners all around.
👻 If you like ghost stories, this place has plenty and some legends say William Larnach still lingers in the halls
