Mama’s Sunflowers is a special little project that a local family started as a way to bring joy to the community. You’ll see fields of bright, cheerful sunflowers growing along the roadside, but now, they’re there for a purpose. Visitors are invited to stop, take a moment to enjoy the blooms, and leave a donation to support people affected by cancer. We have linked their webpage so you can keep an eye out to see when they are blooming.

Here is a message from the Volkers family:

"We are Susanne, Peter, Jemima and Leah Volkers. This has been a long journey for Susanne, getting breast cancer in 2019 and then being diagnosed with a brain tumour in April 2024. It has been one hell of a roller coaster ride. Three months ago we were told Susanne had 4-6 weeks to live. She has defied the odds so far and continues to carry on strong (We like to think this is the full German coming out). The idea started off with us planting 2 hectares of sunflowers for fun for people to enjoy when passing by. With the news of Susannes newest diagnosis we thought why not make it a fundraiser for cancer society who have been a big part of Susannes cancer journey. At the end of January 2025 we will open the sunflower fields to the public for a couple of days, for people to come by to pick their own flowers, take some pictures or to simply enjoy. Look out for further information, for the location and dates.
