Lake Pukaki is one of the most iconic and breathtaking stops in the Mackenzie Region. With its striking turquoise glacial water and panoramic views of Aoraki / Mount Cook in the distance, it’s a must visit for anyone passing through. The colour of the lake is caused by glacial flour suspended in the water, giving it that dreamy, unreal hue.

It’s also a perfect spot for a quick swim! During the summer months, the lake is popular for those brave enough to take a dip, the water stays icy cold year round since it's glacial fed, but it’s refreshing and totally worth it if you’re up for a plunge 🥶

There’s plenty of space to park up, soak in the view, enjoy a picnic, or snap some incredible photos.
