Did you recognize this place from the cover? It’s probably one of my top three flower spots in Japan.

There are three reasons for that: the symbol of Japan, Mount Fuji, my favorite color, purple, and my favorite scent, lavender. Did I convince you to add it to your map?

Located by Lake Kawaguchi, Oishi Park is especially beautiful during the Kawaguchiko Herb Festival, from late June to early July, when the lavender fields are in full bloom.

Keep in mind that the visibility of Mount Fuji can be lower in summer because of humidity, and June is also the rainy season, which can sometimes extend into July. You need a bit of luck with the weather, but if you go early in the morning or around sunset, you might catch this dreamy view.

Lake Kawaguchi is one of the Fuji Five Lakes and offers beautiful scenery all year round, from cherry blossoms in spring to colorful autumn leaves. I highly recommend staying overnight to enjoy both sunset and sunrise by the lake.
