The hike to Sturgill's Landing through the Tongass National Forest is an easy but rewarding trail. It takes you through the lush rainforest, past a lake and ending at the secluded seaside. There's a picnic table to have a nice lunch and take in the views. You could even camp here if you'd like. It's also been known to sometimes see whales from this spot.

Total Distance: 10 km **Return Time: **4 hours Elevation Gain: 100 m Difficulty: Moderate Trail type: There and Back (with an optional loop around Lower Dewey Lake)

Directions: The hikes starts from downtown Skagway on 2nd Ave and Spring Street, there will be a parking lot right near the train tracks. Follow the trail along the train tracks and cross over the tracks. Follow the sign directing you to the Dewey Lakes. From here you can follow the "Lower Dewey Lake" markers. You will past some pipes and a bridge at the very start of the trail which means you are going the right way. It quickly gains elevations but there are switch backs to make them very manageable. Conditions can sometimes be muddy. Once you reach Lower Dewey Lake you will notice outhouses, a dock and picnic table areas around the lake which makes for a great spot to hydrate and take a break. From there you will notice signs for "Sturgill's Landing", follow that. It's pretty clearly marked the rest of the way. It's relatively flat until the very end where you will drop down the seaside. This is a bit steeper and some may find tricky if you aren't comfortable hiking on uneven ground. At the end you will reach the seaside with a picnic table. Relax and enjoy the views, you earned it! Keep in mind the tide if you do some exploring on the coastline.
