How to get here- There are three ways to visit, all starting from Karakol or Bishkek via Kyzart:

1. Horseback Tour

   • Guided treks from 2–7 days, often starting in Kyzart.

   • Includes return shuttle from Bishkek, meals, guides, and yurt stays.

2. Self-Drive (4×4 Required)

   • Accessible via Kalmak Pass (3,446 m) and the Song‑Költoo Range.

   • Full-loop driving around the lake is possible but often muddy and rough—a high-clearance 4×4 is essential.

   • Mostly seasonal access—from June through September.

   • A high clearance vehicle is required, there will be tough river crossings and an unpaved road the entire route.

3. Hiking

   • Popular multi-day trail starting from Kyzart town, following the horse trekking route.

   • Trails can range from 2–10 days with several steep passes—which are challenging but rewarding.

Where to stay here- If you are a part of a guided trek/tour, you won't need to worry about accommodation, they'll sort that for you. Around the lake, you can almost always find a yurt camp nearby. There's very limited service around the lake which can make it difficult to book online ahead of time. It's recommend to also bring your own tent in case there are no available beds (usually only necessary in peak tourist season).

What to do here- Between the horse trekking, hiking, gorgeous lake to swim in and local culture, it's hard to be bored here! It's important to note that Song Kul sits at an altitude of 3,016 Meters, meaning it can get very cold after the sun sets. Bring lots of warm clothing, no matter what time of year you go!
