Description:
Kvernufoss is a beautiful hidden waterfall located near Skógar, just a short walk from the Skógar Museum. At 30 meters high, it drops into a narrow green gorge and offers visitors the rare chance to walk behind the curtain of water, similar to Seljalandsfoss but with far fewer crowds. The hike to Kvernufoss is easy, about 20 minutes each way, making it one of the best short hikes on the South Coast. Because it’s often overlooked by travelers rushing to Skógafoss, Kvernufoss feels peaceful and is a true hidden gem.

Price:
Visiting Kvernufoss is free, though parking at the Skógar Museum lot may cost a small fee (about 500 ISK / $4 USD). Guided South Coast tours that include hidden gems like Kvernufoss typically cost $120–150 USD per person.

⚠️ Caution: The short trail to Kvernufoss can be snowy or icy in winter. Good boots and microspikes are strongly recommended.
