Description:
Þingvellir is one of Iceland’s most important cultural and natural landmarks, located about 45 minutes from Reykjavík. It sits in a rift valley where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates slowly drift apart, creating dramatic cliffs and cracks in the earth. Þingvellir is also the historic site of Iceland’s first parliament, established in 930, making it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can walk through Almannagjá Gorge, see Öxarárfoss waterfall, explore Þingvallavatn (Iceland’s largest natural lake), and even snorkel in the crystal-clear waters of Silfra Fissure. The park combines geology, history, and natural beauty all in one.

Price:
Entrance to Þingvellir is free. Parking costs around 750 ISK ($5 USD) per day. Snorkeling or diving in Silfra requires a guided tour, usually costing $120–150 USD per person.
