Description:
Fjaðrárgljúfur is a stunning canyon in South Iceland, about 2 km (1.2 miles) long and up to 100 meters (330 ft) deep. The canyon is carved by the Fjaðrá River, with winding cliffs covered in bright green moss that look straight out of a fantasy world. A marked walking path along the edge leads to several viewpoints, offering incredible panoramas of the canyon and river below. The trail is easy to moderate and takes about 1 hour round trip. This location became especially popular after appearing in a Justin Bieber music video, but it still feels peaceful compared to other South Coast attractions.
Price:
Visiting Fjaðrárgljúfur is free, and parking at the trailhead is also free. Guided tours that include the canyon, often paired with other South Coast highlights, usually cost $100–150 USD per person.
⚠️ Caution: Upper walking paths are often closed in winter due to icy conditions and erosion. Stick to open areas and watch your footing.
