There is one monument in particular that really stands out when you start walking in the old town. It is the minor minaret Kalta, a large tower covered with turquoise tiles. Actually, Kalta Minor was supposed to be the tallest minaret in Uzbekistan, but due to the death of the builder, the construction stopped at 29 meters high. It was hoped that the minaret was high enough to allow people standing above it to see as far as Bukhara. It’s really beautiful during sunset when its blue tiles are covered with a reddish glow, and at night when it’s lit by the spotlight.
