The abandoned plane wrack of the US Navy at Sólheimasandur at the south coast of Iceland is a very popular sightseeing spot for guests from all over the world. All 7 passengers survived the crash in the 1970ies and the aircraft itself was almost complete. The reason why the plane wrack appears nowadays in parts is because the US Navy reused as many parts as they could.

You have two possibilities of reaching the plane wrack:

1. Walking: The walking path leads through a lava desert which is leading to the plane wrack close to the sea. The whole walking distance back and forth is 7km long and will take approximately 40 minutes each direction.

2. Shuttle: This option costs 2,900ISK and will take 10-15 minutes each direction.
