Dverghamrar, east of Foss, is an intriguing and stunning phenomenon. With a unique landscape created by the end of the Ice Age, the area features prominently impressive columnar basalt formations with cube-jointed basalt lying atop. Formed when lava cooled down, contraction forces caused fracture networks that resulted in the columns’ shape. A folktale tells of a working girl who heard christian hymns coming from the rocks on the way home, there she realised everyone else was already home, so it became apparent that it must have been the dwarfs singing.
