Hida Folk Village (Hida no Sato) is a Gassho-zukuri village similar to Shirakawago but less popular, as it is much smaller. If Shirakawago is too crowded for you, I highly recommend to stop here as its only a 30min walk or 10min bus ride from Takayama Station. Arriving here is like stepping back in time to the Edo Period with over 30 traditional houses from the Hida region on display. The best part? They light the indoor fireplaces every morning, adding a cozy touch to this open air museum experience. Don't miss the nearby Hida Takayama Crafts Experience Center for hands-on workshops in local handicrafts like making sarubobo dolls or glass wind chimes.
