This has to be one of the best temples in Japan.

Risshaku-ji Temple, also known as Yamadera, is a mystical mountaintop temple complex located in Yamagata. There are a 1,000-steps to reach the top through a serene cedar forest, where you'll see breathtaking views of the Tachiya River Valley from Godaido Hall.

The photos don't do this place justice which means it's a must visit spot!
