Marie Laveau's original home once stood at 1020 and 1022 St. Ann Street in New Orleans. It was where she grew up, raised her family, and welcomed those in need. While there are myths about how she acquired the house through Voodoo powers, the truth is a bit less magical. The cottage was built for her grandmother, Catherine Henry, and later purchased by Marie's common-law husband, Jean Louis Christophe Duminy de Glapion. The house was a hub of activity with elaborate altars inside, and Marie Laveau's legacy lives on even though the original structure was demolished in 1903.
