Gangteng Monastery, also known as Gangtey Gonpa, is a picturesque Tibetan Buddhist monastery located in the Wangdue Phodrang District of Bhutan. Situated amidst the stunning Phobjikha Valley, it's famous for being a winter roosting spot for black-necked cranes who circle the monastery three times upon arrival. Founded in 1613 by Gyalsé Rinpoche, the grandson of the revered treasure revealer Pema Lingpa, the monastery underwent a major restoration from 2000 to 2008. Today, it stands as a magnificent complex with five temples, monks' living quarters, and a school, preserving its original aura and grandeur while serving as a spiritual haven for locals and visitors alike.
