The Fanal Forest Hike is one of the most unique experiences Madeira has to offer. Make sure to keep your eyes open for some of the forest's "fairy tale trees" which have twisted and contorted branches that create a unique atmosphere among the dense canopy of trees and moss-covered forest floors. Vereda do Fanal is one of the most popular trail because it is a one-way route that starts in the Laurissilva forest and ends at the Posto Florestal.

The fog is generally hit or miss, when we arrived it came and went within a few seconds. Cows hang around the entire area, don't get too close or they may chase you. Practice common sense and please respect their environment. :)
