Powderham Castle is a fortified manor house located in East Devon, about 6 miles south of Exeter.

Originally built after 1390 by Sir Philip Courtenay, it has been expanded and altered over the centuries. The castle, now owned by the Courtenay family, features a mix of medieval and 18th-century architecture, including the Marble Hall and a Victorian dining hall. With a rich history that includes involvement in the Wars of the Roses and the Civil War, Powderham Castle is a Grade I listed building and a popular filming location for movies like "The Remains of the Day" and "Churchill: The Hollywood Years."

The castle offers free flow entry so you can explore at your leisure, as well as guided tours that can be booked on arrival. For families there are even activities as such goat walking and pony grooming, as well as a secret garden so there really is something for everyone.

If you don’t wish to go in to the house itself, taking a walk on the beautiful estate grounds is equally enjoyable.
