Les Trois Salazes are one of the most striking features in Réunion’s high interior: a row of jagged basalt spires rising like teeth from the ridge between Mafate and Cilaos. You’ve likely seen them from viewpoints in both cirques, but standing beside them is a different story. Getting there is a high-alpine scramble, with steep drop-offs, rope-assisted sections, and constantly changing weather.

The reward? A narrow ridgeline with sheer drops on both sides and views that stretch across the whole island. It’s wild, exposed, and absolutely not for the unprepared. There’s no water along the way, and no margin for error once you reach the summit ridge. Most locals do this hike with a mountain guide, and for good reason.

👉 Only go with a certified guide unless you’ve done it before. This is one of Réunion’s most technical routes, and weather can turn dangerous fast.
