Hidden among the desert cliffs on Luxor’s West Bank, the Valley of the Kings served as the royal burial ground for pharaohs of the New Kingdom for nearly 500 years. Over 60 tombs have been discovered here, including that of Tutankhamun, each richly decorated with hieroglyphs and vivid wall paintings depicting the journey to the afterlife and the pharaohs’ interactions with the gods.

Visiting with a local guide is highly recommended, as it provides valuable insight into the symbolism of the tombs, funerary rituals, and stories behind the hieroglyphs—an experience that is far more meaningful than exploring independently. Guides can be booked in advance or hired at the entrance.

Recommended Visit Time: 2–3 hours
🎟️ Entry fee: Ticket required.

💡 Traveller Addicted Tip: Arrive before 8:00 AM. Temperatures rise quickly and the first hours of the morning offer the best conditions for exploring the tombs comfortably. Wear comfortable shoes and carry water.
