The Temple of Hatshepsut, located at Deir el-Bahari, is one of Luxor’s most extraordinary and photogenic monuments. Built directly into the cliffs, this mortuary temple was commissioned by Hatshepsut, one of the few women to rule Ancient Egypt as Pharaoh during the 18th Dynasty.

The temple is composed of three grand terraces connected by ramps, each decorated with colonnaded courts and intricate reliefs that celebrate Hatshepsut’s reign and her divine birth. Its dramatic desert backdrop enhances the temple’s monumental presence. Originally part of a larger complex dedicated to the cult of Amun, it was used for rituals and ceremonies honoring the Pharaoh and the gods.
