Located almost vertically above Gasteretal Valley near Kandersteg, Balmhornhütte SAC (1956m) is a cozy, authentic Swiss mountain hut. This gem of a cabin stands out due to its spectacular views of the surrounding green mountain pastures, with an incredible panorama of the Kanderfirn and beyond, including the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. It sleeps 20 people, has accommodation for 8 more in case of emergency, and allows dogs on request. Additionally, the hut offers half board and plain meals, as well as drinks.

HIKE DETAILS: T3 trail, not for people who has vertigo since some part of the trail is narrow.

Start: Kandersteg banhof. Follow the sign towards Balmhornütte right next to the Kander river.

The hike is 12km long with elevation of 830 meter.

Along the way you will see endless views of the valley, waterfalls and the retreating Balmhorn Glacier.

Since it is a one way trail you need to take the same way back.

Tip: don't do it in in rain or storm since the trail can be slippery. Try the homemade cake at the hut. It is delicious.
