Ponte Sisto is a stunning bridge that effortlessly spans the Tiber river in Rome's historic center. Built by Pope Sixtus IV between 1473 and 1479, the famous structure stands tall with its iconic eye-shaped lightening in the central span as well as its two golden sculptures situated atop the bridge heads. Although the bridge has seen many changes over the centuries, one of its more notable features is that it still carries the water of the Acqua Paola across the river in eight large pipes - a unique feature that adds to its antiquity. The bridge is also a popular gathering spot for tourists and locals alike where you can partake in a Friday night aperitivo or marvel at its breathtaking views of St. Peter's Dome on a clear evening.
