Mitchell Falls
The most remote and scenic waterfall in Western Australia

Mitchell Falls are quite the adventure! They are the most remote waterfalls reachable by land in Australia and it took 4/5 hours to reach them from the main Gibb River road.

The road starts at Drysdale Station and it is badly corrugated and can only be done with a 4WD during the dry season! Our battery stopped working from overheating doing this road and also had to help another car jump-starting theirs and heard from people who had multiple flat tyres or damaged their car too, so be prepared!

You need to pay a specific pass to enter the Mitchell Region called Uunguu Visitor Pass (linked below) which can be purchased online ONLY and it's 50$pp.

The walk to the waterfall is 8.6km return from the campground, grade 5, around 2 hours each way. It only took us 1 hour each way though, because we left very early in the morning to avoid the heat.

Photo tip: for the best views of the Falls don't stop at the end of the walk. You'll see the helicopter landing point, walk past it and you'll see a path leading to some rocks, the best viewing spot is just behind them.
