Te Waikoropupū Springs—often called Pupu Springs—sit in Golden Bay and are world-famous for their unbelievably clear water. In fact, visibility here stretches up to 63 metres below the surface! On top of that, the sheer volume of water flowing out is massive.

The loop walk is super easy—flat, well-kept, and only takes around 20–30 minutes to wander around.

For Māori, the springs hold deep spiritual importance and are recognised as a sacred site. In 2023, their cultural and environmental value was further cemented when the Environment Court granted them the highest possible protection through a Water Conservation Order.

If you’re in Golden Bay, this is one spot you definitely don’t want to skip.

📸 Photography tip: I shot these with my 16–35mm wide angle during the day. If you can, aim for a cloudy day—the softer light helps cut down the harsh reflections on the water.
