The Riwaka Resurgence, found in Kahurangi National Park near Motueka in the Nelson/Tasman region, is a truly special natural spot. A short 10-minute stroll through lush native forest and across crystal-clear streams leads you to the cave where the Riuwaka River flows out from underground. From Hawkes Lookout on Takaka Hill you can take in sweeping views of the resurgence, and nearby there are plenty of chances to picnic, wander, fish, and explore the moss-covered rocks. This place also holds deep spiritual meaning for Te Atiawa and Ngāti Rārua, who consider it a sacred site. If you’re chasing a memorable outdoor adventure, the Riwaka Resurgence is well worth the visit.
