The Potaema Track is one of the easiest ways to experience the magical forests of Egmont National Park, Taranaki.

Starting from the Potaema Track carpark on Pembroke Road, this short and flat boardwalk winds through lush kamahi forest and wetlands before reaching the stunning Potaema Swamp – a peaceful wetland framed by native bush with views of Mount Taranaki on a clear day.

At just 30 minutes return, this track is perfect for all ages and abilities. Its gentle boardwalk makes it accessible for wheelchairs and buggies, so everyone can enjoy a taste of the forest.

📸 Photography tip: If you’re visiting on a clear day, the swamp can give you a beautiful frame for the mountain – go early or late in the day for the best light and calm water. A polarising filter can help bring out the greens of the wetland plants.
