The Lake Wakatipu Viewpoint is one of the best quick stops for jaw-dropping views in Queenstown.

Perched above the lake, this lookout gives you sweeping panoramas of the deep blue waters of Lake Wakatipu, framed by the Remarkables mountain range and rolling hills. It’s a spot where you can really take in the scale and beauty of the region without having to hike far.

The viewpoint is only a short drive from central Queenstown, making it an easy addition to any itinerary. You can spend just 10–15 minutes here, or longer if you’re soaking in the scenery and snapping photos.

📸 Photography tip: The lake looks incredible at sunrise and sunset when the light hits the mountains, but even midday the colour of the water really pops. Bring a wide-angle lens if you have one—the view is massive and deserves to be captured in full.
