Here’s your guide to visiting Thunder Creek Falls ⬇️
🥾 Trail: Just a 2-minute walk on a fully accessible sealed path takes you straight to the viewing platform — no scrambling required.
🅿️ Access/Parking: Easy parking right off State Highway 6. Look for the DOC sign just before or after crossing the Haast River bridge, depending on your direction.
📏 Difficulty: Super easy — perfect for all ages and abilities. Wheelchair- and pram-friendly too.
🤫 Secret: For a unique angle, carefully walk down to the riverbed (only if conditions are safe) — the view up to the falls with the river in the foreground is stunning. The sandflies can be killer though!
👧👦 Family-friendly: Absolutely.
🦮 Dog-Friendly: No, this spot is inside Mount Aspiring National Park, so dogs are not permitted.
🌞 Shade: Mostly shaded in the morning with towering beech forest all around — a great stop even on hot days.
🚽 Facilities: No toilets at this stop.
🗑️ Leave no trace: Stick to the trail, don’t climb the rocks near the base of the falls, and pack out everything you bring in 🌿
