Sutton Park – Big, Beautiful, and Perfect for an Adventure
If you like wide open spaces, wild ponies, and feeling like you've escaped the city without actually leaving it, Sutton Park is your place.
🚲 What’s the Vibe?
It’s huge (over 2,000 acres), wild, and ideal for biking, walking, or just pretending you’re in a nature documentary. The terrain is a mix of heathland, woodland, lakes, and open parkland, and yes—actual wild horses roam freely. Casual.
🎯 Where We Started
We kicked off at Streetly Gate, which is a great entry point for kids on bikes; nice wide paths, wooden walkways, smooth rides and plenty of space to zoom around without dodging too many walkers
🦆 The Route?
Cycle or stroll past the lakes, over heathland, and straight to the cafés and restaurants halfway round, with stunning lake views at multiple cafes and restaurants at ///hands.props.cracks. It's the kind of place where you could grab a coffee and watch the world go by for way too long.
We stopped off at the little cafe for a quick takeaway hot drink and piece of cake but The Bracebridge is a beautiful restaurant with a terrace overlooking the lake for a longer stop!
🚗 Parking & Access
Loads of entry points to the park, but Streetly Gate is where we started
Some paths are gravelly, but overall, decent for pushchairs (if you don’t mind a few bumpy bits)
🍴Cafés & restaurants overlooking the lake—scenic, relaxing, and excellent for mid-walk cake consumption
Toilets at key points because nobody wants to be caught out in a park this size
Final Verdict?
Sutton Park is one of the best urban green spaces in the UK—wild but accessible, peaceful but full of life, and ideal for everything from casual strolls to serious bike rides. Plus, where else can you have a coffee and spot wild ponies in Birmingham?
