Dolomites: The Bucket List Outdoors Trip

The Dolomites had been on my bucket list for years, and finally driving there in July from Milan felt like stepping straight into a postcard. The road trip alone is worth it, winding alpine roads, dramatic peaks, and lake after lake appearing out of nowhere.

I spent my days exploring some of the most iconic spots in South Tyrol: walking the scenic loop around Lago di Braies, discovering quieter alpine lakes like Lago di Dobbiaco, stopping at viewpoints overlooking Tre Cime di Lavaredo, and hiking through the surreal landscapes of Alpe di Siusi.

This guide brings together the exact lakes, viewpoints, and hikes that made the trip unforgettable, plus practical tips to explore the Dolomites efficiently by car. If the Dolomites have been on your bucket list, this guide will help you plan the road trip properly and experience the best of it without wasting time.
