Mining town turned ghost town

Hello Mallory

Ironton Townsite, located in Ouray County, Colorado, was once a bustling mining community during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Situated near Red Mountain Town and Guston, it was a hub for silver mining activities in the area. At its peak, Ironton had over 1000 residents and served as a vital transportation junction between Red Mountain Town and Ouray. However, as mining operations declined, the town slowly faded away, with the last resident passing away in the 1960s.

Its a super fun and easy hike for all ages. Depending on your vehicle, you can park any of these places:

2wd and no clearance: https://maps.app.goo.gl/7W8qeNitsxa7MUWu5

2wd - can try to make it here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/LjD1TRnJe4NbujDL6

You can keep going if you have higher clearance, but I actually prefer to hike here because you're in the aspens.

Ironton Townsite is located here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/XtscAZnwu9EGLQDGA // you'll find trails connecting each of the cabins. To get to the townsite, follow the obvious road and it will take you right there.

**PLEASE DO NOT ENTER ANY MINING STRUCTURE. THESE STRUCTURES CAN BE EXTREMELY UNSTABLE AND DANGEROUS TO ENTER. PLEASE ENJOY SAFELY FROM A DISTANCE.**
