One of the most scenic hikes in Gros Morne, Green Gardens takes you through an incredible mix of landscapes—from the stark Tablelands to lush boreal forest, and finally to a stunning volcanic coastline.
The 9 km (5.6 mi) return trail starts just 13 km from Woody Point (or 3 km from Trout River) along Route 431. You’ll descend through forest to reach Old Man Cove, where sea stacks, meadows, and dramatic cliffs steal the show. Keep your eyes peeled—wildflowers bloom along the coastal meadows, and you may even spot sheep grazing near the sea.
The trail continues to Steve’s Cove, where it ends. The path to Wallace Brook is now permanently closed for safety, so please stay on the open section of the trail. Once at the coast, explore the beach and sea cave or stay overnight at a primitive campsite.
Trail Tips:
The return hike is mostly uphill and steep in spots.
Stay well back from cliff edges—some are undercut.
Be cautious on the rocks near the water (they can be slippery).
Keep an eye on the tide and falling rocks near cliffs.
This hike offers a true taste of Gros Morne’s wild beauty and is a must for anyone looking to experience its contrasts.
