Directions

Sørvágsvatn is one of the most surreal spots in the Faroes — the famous “lake over the ocean.”

The hike to the viewpoint is about 4 miles (round trip), moderate in difficulty, and takes roughly 2 hours if you keep a steady pace. There’s a small fee to hike this trail (around 200 DKK).

The path leads to the dramatic Trælanípa cliffs, where the lake appears to float above the Atlantic, and also offers views of Bøsdalafossur, the waterfall where the lake plunges straight into the sea.

One of the biggest surprises along the trail? Highland cows casually grazing with the cliffs and ocean as their backdrop (although their presence here is not guaranteed)!
