This one is great if you're in the Hakuba area and would like to remove yourself from the crowds. It's a short drive out of town and with the slight elevation gain comes the views of the Northern Alps.

I have been to Reishoji on a number of occasions just to catch the vibrant fall foliage and the mountain backdrop. This ancient temple, built over 600 years ago, just adds even more to the already beautiful scenery.

Tip: Visit for autumn from around October 19 to November 10. Even better, enjoy the autumn leaves illumination from October 30 to November 4.
