Ritsurin Garden is a historic Japanese landscape garden that’s been carefully maintained since the Edo period. It’s well-known for its six ponds, thirteen hills, and perfectly framed views of Mount Shiun. Walking through the garden feels like exploring a carefully designed space, with every path leading to another scenic spot.

Seasonal highlights make it worth visiting at different times of the year. In winter, the plum blossoms are a standout, while summer brings vibrant irises. There’s also a teahouse where you can enjoy matcha and traditional sweets, which is a nice break during your visit.

When I visited, I spent a while by the main pond, watching the koi fish glide under the reflection of the surrounding pines. It’s the kind of place where you can wander at your own pace, taking in how much thought went into every detail
