The Land of Serpents

Land of Serpents is a slow travel guide through the Atlantic edge of the Iberian northwest, from the ancient rock shrine of Senhor da Pedra (near Porto), to Pedra da Serpe ("Stone of the Serpent") in Galicia. Many special places across northwestern Portugal and Spain, mapped along a coast where pre-Roman memory runs close to the surface: castros (hill forts) built above the sea, megalithic stones still standing in fields, promontories where the old world ends and the Atlantic begins. For travellers who read landscape as living history.
